This spring I was able to schedule for GRYFN to teach the AT219 class at Purdue University. AT219 is the 200-level spring semester class for UAS major and minor students, and this semester was taught by Professor Nathan Rose. Over the course of the week of March 20th, 2023, Professor Rose allowed us to teach during one class, and both lab sections. Students in this class have not had much hands on experience with heavy lift platforms or high accuracy data collection. It was determined that GRYFN would be a great company to introduce some of these related concepts to students, to open their eyes to what they will be learning about in their 300 and 400 level classes.
While my AT219 class had a different professor in 2021, I also had not been exposed to high accuracy remote sensing operations or data analysis. So, I took a personal interest in making this opportunity possible, as I knew several students in my grade that got “whiplash” from the transition of a focus around regulations, and drone hardware, in the 100 and 200 levels to the remote sensing focus in the 300 level classes. I made sure to strongly point out that the remote sensing related topics we introduced them to would come back around in their 300 level classes, and that working with data in applications like ArcPro were a key part of those classes as well.
I was happy to see at least some of the students took what GRYFN taught to them over the course of that week seriously. Those students asked questions during the lectures and spoke with myself and other members of the team afterwards. Professor Rose personally told me he was very happy with our lessons, and he even learned a few new things himself! If possible GRYFN now looks forward to opportunities to give in-class educational opportunities in the future.
Below are just a couple of photos I took of Senior Pilot, Ryan Riley, and Director of Solutions, Evan Flatt giving portions of the presentations to the Purdue students!
